My first day of travel kicked off after my train came in from Baltimore I took the Marc Train from Baltimore to D.C. and I arrived within 30 minutes it was a pretty quick ride much faster than I remembered. But lets skip to the good part my stay at the hostel>>>

Arrival

I arrived at Ustreet Hostel just in time to check in around 3 p.m. this is my first time staying at a capsule hotel Before you get there they have like a precheck in process where you enter in your contact information and have you download this app that actually acts as your key card for you to get into your room which is pretty cool.

I looked around and hung out in the lobby for a bit to get fully checked in and asked the staff where i would be staying and where the bathrooms and stuff would be.

Heading to my hostel dorm room

Then I grab my bags and make my way to the elevator to get to my room. I found my room and entered to find my space pod which was on top just like I wanted and bunch of other travelers staying in the room as well.

There were probably about 18 pods there I believe but they were stacked so it didnt seem like that many and the room also was not completely full there was maybe two people in pods near me the other were in a corner together. Anyway after I climbed into my pod and got settle in, I checked my pod out from the inside and took in the experience that I was having.

The inside of the space pod was designed to look like a spaceship. It had all the bells and whistles you could ask for and I was pressing ALL the buttons to see what everything did.

Inside of the space pod were the following this :

  • a bed
  • sheets
  • a pillow
  • pullout tray
  • charging port
  • ceiling lights
  • air vent button
  • book light

After I got settled in left out to find something to eat I was walking so long trying to find something that I just gave up and settled for McDonalds. I walked pretty far only because I wanted to looked around while I was a little but I was getting tired and I had, had a long day so I went back gathered my things and took a shower.

Taking a shower in a hostel after a long day

The shower was on the basement i believe, it was like community shower the kind you would see in a dorm or a gym maybe. I remember having a hard time getting situated because I couldn’t figure out where to put my clothes and things while I took my shower because you obviously cant bring your stuff with you most of the time or your things will get wet.

My dilemma was I had my phone, bag with my money, my current clothes that I have to change out of, new change of clothes, my shoes etc. and all they had was a tiny bench to sit things on by one of the walls. If your wondering why I brung so much with me to the shower it is because there was no secure area to store your things like a locker. Your pods with your things inside are only covered by like a retractable curtain so anyone can open and steal your things but the company would not be liable im sure.

Anyway back to the story i finally found a large shower that had a bench inside so that would at least help me to not worry about my belongings but then I realized that I did not have any shower shoes and I kept telling myself that I needed to get some but I didn’t and I don’t even want to talk about what I did to substitute not having them. Anyway I took my shower and headed up to my room and crawled into my pod. I had a long day and I was pooped so I was in for the night and it was only like 5 p.m. yeah I know pretty earlier but I was exhausted which is a story for another post.

Turning in early

So after I ate my Mcdonalds I passed out early I was knocked out my mom and my man called my throughout the evening but i didn’t fully wake up until the middle of the night. Overall I was having an okay experience but I was getting very disturbed by another person staying in the room. There was a girl in my room getting out of her bed like clock work every 5 minutes or so and when she did this she was stomping so hard and so loud it was shaking the entire room I kept thinking “this girl has bricks for feet” i tried not to judge or think too much about I was just like maybe something is going that’s making her do that and turns out I was right and it was but we wont talk about that any further.

Almost time to checkout

I woke up at about 4 a.m. and my check out was at 10 a.m. i think so i decided to stay in my pod and inside the hostel until it was time for me to leave because I didn’t want to leave out early to explore and start scrambling for my things. So I mostly just laid down clearing space on my phone to record videos and take pictures of my travels, booked the accommodations at my next hotel, and scrolled through tiktok

What did I like about staying in this hostel?

  • Very cool design concept
  • Phone App that serves a Keycard for the outside of the building and entry into your room
  • Nice Bathrooms
  • They do have events for guests on weekends sometimes ( drinks, music, food )

What I disliked about staying in this hostel?

  • That they didn’t have personal lockers ( I heard they have an area where you could keep your things at the front desk but I would have liked something more personal and secure and close by) maybe they will add them in the future preferably inside the rooms. ( Update : I looked at there website and they decided to opt of lockers at this time due to noise levels in the room and are currently looking for alternatives)

  • Pods were made out of some material that resembles plastic and whenever I turned I felt like you could hear every move you make inside your pod.

Would I stay in this capsule hotel again?

Yes I would definitely stay here at this hostel again in the future if im in D.C.

I would probably book a more private room next time tho but great way to meet other travelers and travel on a budget.
